THE IMPACT OF IMPACT

Rocking the Boat participants develop pride, purpose, and possibility by learning the unique and lifelong skills behind building and rowing wooden boats, sailing, and restoring the Bronx River. We create community, teach through transformative experiences, and make nature available to everyone, inspiring young people to determine their own future against a backdrop of systemic inequity.

In kind donations requested should be sent to: Rocking the Boat, 812 Edgewater Road, Bronx, NY 10474

    • Camping Gear, especially 6-person tents, example from REI HERE
    • Drysuits for sailing, especially Junior and Plus sizes example HERE
    • Sailing Jackets, men, women, junior, and plus sizes, example from Helly Hansen HERE
    • Donation of gently used camping gear such as tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, winter clothing - base layers, coats, gloves, hats.

    Volunteer Opportunities:

    • College/Career Readiness: Because Rocking the Boat's participants are growing up in a community where nearly half of adults have less than a high school diploma or equivalent degree, being mentored by individuals in the professional workplace has incredible value.

    • Individual volunteers or groups are needed to work with program participants who seek college/career advice and may need help with resume-building and interviewing, among other skills.

    • Volunteer to lead or arrange a workplace visit. Rocking the Boat's high school programs visit workplaces of all kinds, typically during the summer.
